Adoptions

         Adoptions

We take in surrendered birds, reptiles, and small mammals and adopt them out to new, caring homes. If you are looking to surrender an animal to us, please contact us via phone or social media for information and to verify that we have available space.

Rehoming Policy

We rehome animals from our store.  We do not charge you a fee to leave your animal with us. As long as we have space to adequately care for the animal and it is not visibly sick, we are happy to help.

Our greatest concern is for the welfare of the animal being rehomed and the customer who has to surrender the animal. Not all rehomed animals are neglected. Some come from loving homes who through no fault of their own cannot care for their beloved pet. We promise them that we will do our best to find a loving, forever family. That being said, If after interviewing we decide the animal is not a good fit for your family, please do not take it personally. We are not implying that you would not be a good home. We may feel that you are not the right home for this PARTICULAR animal. For example: If we are told that a 20-year-old parrot HATES women and has been rehomed a few times because of attacking the women in the household, demonstrates in the store that it doesn’t care for the female staff, and you are a woman, we will not rehome him with you. It doesn’t matter how much money you have. It doesn’t matter that you LOVE this kind of parrot and always wanted one. It doesn’t matter how much experience you have. We will not knowingly put you in danger and the bird into a situation where it will only be rehomed again in a few months. Neither you nor the bird will be happy with that arrangement.

Because you are interviewing with us, does not mean that you will be the one adopting the animal you are interested in. Sometimes several people are interested in the same animal. We want to see who the animal shows a preference for. This is a deal-breaker. The animal must like you in return. Approving an adoption is at our discretion, not who came to visit first.

Large parrots who can potentially be dangerous have special requirements that need to be met by the new owner.  You must interview with a senior staff person in order to see if you can adopt one from us.

You must come in and visit with the animal you are interested in on three different occasions. (this helps prevent an impulse buy) This will also give the animal a chance to get to know you and you may see the animal’s disposition more clearly. He may have had a bad day, or a good day the first time you met. Visiting a few times will help you to determine whether he really likes you or not or if it will be a good fit for your family.

The cost of adoption is the cost of the supplies for whatever animal you are interested in. It is a proper enclosure or cage, toys, food, and miscellaneous accessories needed. The items must be purchased here. We do not charge for the animal, only the supplies. We cannot warranty an older animal with a history that we are not certain of. Therefore, we only charge for the supplies. Charging for the supplies helps us to continue to find new homes for animals. Some animals require medical care. Some animals are very particular and have stayed with us for up to a year before they found someone that they liked. Buying the supplies from us helps us to cover the cost of them living here and the employees who care for them. Thank you for supporting us and understanding why this arrangement is necessary.

You are welcome to see the adoptable animals here.

However, you must come in and meet with our staff and

visit the animals and get to know them.
